Research Tasks are a Legends: Arceus-inspired system where you complete per-species research goals by catching, battling, evolving, and interacting with Pokémon. Every species in the National Pokédex has its own set of research tasks with unique goals and rewards.
Commands
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/arceustasks | Open the National Research Dex |
/arceustasks species <name> | View research tasks for a specific species |
/arceustasks ranks | View Galaxy Ranks and claim rank rewards |
How it works
Every Pokémon in the National Dex has 4–8 research tasks. Each task has tiered goals (e.g., a "catch" task might have milestones at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 catches). Hitting each goal earns research points and research levels for that species — and points feed into your overall Galaxy Rank.
Research progress counts whether you're battling wild Pokémon, fighting NPCs, or in PvP — allowPvPBattleProgress is on.
Research points
| Goal type | Points per goal | Research levels |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 10 points | +1 level |
| Bonus | 20 points | +2 levels |
Bonus goals are marked in the research GUI and are usually the harder tasks like catching with a specific Poké Ball or landing a particular move.
Task types
Your research tasks will include a mix of these behaviours:
Catch
Catch the Pokémon a number of times. The most common task — every species has one.
Use Move
See the Pokémon use a specific move in battle. Each species has 1-2 signature moves to research.
Defeat
Defeat the Pokémon in battle. Counts in PvE and PvP.
Defeat with Type
Defeat the Pokémon using super-effective moves of a specific type (e.g., defeat Bulbasaur with Fire-type moves).
Evolve
Evolve the Pokémon. Only appears for species that can evolve.
Forms Obtained
Catch different forms (e.g., male and female variants). Only appears for gender-dimorphic species.
Feed
Feed the Pokémon using berries or food items. Appears on roughly 30% of species.
Species completion
When you complete every research task for a species, you receive a Pokédollar reward (scaled to that species' rarity) and a permanent 1.2× shiny rate multiplier for that species. This stacks with the 1.1× level-10 boost — so a fully-completed species sits at 1.2× while every species you've hit research-level-10 on contributes a separate 1.1× global multiplier.
Galaxy Ranks
As you accumulate research points across all species, you'll earn Galaxy Ranks — a 10-tier progression system. Check progress and claim rewards with /arceustasks ranks.

Tips
- Start with common species — they're everywhere and finish fast, which gets you through the first few Galaxy Ranks quickly.
- Use your party wisely — keeping a species in your party while battling lets it work on its "use move" tasks naturally.
- Check progress —
/arceustasks species <name>shows exactly which goals you still need. - Bonus goals count double — prioritise the bonus tasks (marked in the GUI) for faster rank progression.
- Shiny hunting? The 1.2× species-completion boost is permanent and stacks with the global 1.1× level-10 boost. Complete the species you plan to hunt before you start your shiny chains.
