A Chest Shop is a player-built shop made from a storage block (chest, barrel, or shulker) plus a sign. Once set up, it runs on its own — other players can buy from it, sell to it, or both, in Pokédollars, without you needing to be online.
Storage blocks you can use
Any vanilla container works — most shops use a regular chest, barrel, or shulker box. Larger setups use double chests for capacity.
Sign format
A shop sign has 3 required lines and 1 optional line.
[shop]
<buy>:<sell>
<quantity>
<description> (optional)
| Line | Contents |
|---|---|
| 1 | The literal text [shop] — this turns the sign into a shop sign. |
| 2 | The price. Three formats: 10 (sell-only), 10:5 (both directions), :5 (buy-only). All numbers are in Pokédollars. |
| 3 | The quantity per transaction. 1, 16, 32, 64, etc. |
| 4 | An optional one-line description (e.g. "Rare Candies"). |
| Format on line 2 | What it does |
|---|---|
10 | Sell shop — players pay you 10 PD to take items out of the chest. |
10:5 | Buy & sell shop — players can pay 10 PD to buy from you, or you'll pay them 5 PD to sell to you. |
:5 | Buy shop — you pay 5 PD for each item players bring you. The chest fills as they sell. |
A Minecraft stack is 64. Common quantity choices are 1, 16, 32, and 64 per transaction; pick the size that matches how the item is normally traded.
Creating a shop
Place the storage block
Drop your chest, barrel, or shulker where the shop will live. Make sure it's somewhere claimed so it can't be griefed.
Place a sign
Attach a sign directly to the storage block.
Write the four lines
Line 1: [shop]. Line 2: your price (10, 10:5, or :5). Line 3: quantity (16, 64, etc.). Line 4: optional description.
Link the item
Right-click the sign while holding the item you want to sell. That sets which item this shop trades.
Stock the container
For sell or buy/sell shops, fill the container with what you're selling. For buy-only shops, leave it empty — it fills as players sell to you.
Examples
Sell shop
[shop]
10
16
Diamond Blocks
Players take 16 Diamond Blocks per click and pay you 10 PD. You need at least 16 in the chest at all times.
Buy shop
[shop]
:5
1
Iron Ingots
Players hand you 1 Iron Ingot per click and you pay them 5 PD. The chest fills as they sell.
Two-way shop
[shop]
10:5
64
Wheat
Players can buy 64 wheat for 10 PD, or sell 64 wheat for 5 PD. The 5 PD spread is your profit per cycle.
Managing your shop
Restocking
Items don't refill themselves. Drop new stock into the container or empty it out as buy orders pile up. If a sell shop runs dry, the next click just won't go through.
Swapping the display item
Right-click the sign again while holding a different item to swap what the shop trades. The display item shown above the container updates with it.
Blocked items
A few items can't be put in a Chest Shop — debug_stick, custom-textured weapons, and certain decoration blocks that share an item with other content. If a sign won't link to your item, that's why.
Protection
Chest Shops aren't claim-aware by themselves — anyone who can break the container can rob it. Always set up shops inside a claim, and prefer barrel/shulker for compact unbreakable footprints in shared market plazas. See Claims for setting up protection.
