PBG has two gym systems running side by side:
- NPC Gyms — the eight-leader progression and Royal League in the Zenith Region. Covered in full on the Zenith Region page.
- Player Gyms — community-built gyms in the Overworld, each run by a player gym leader.
This page covers the Player Gym system.
How Player Gyms Work
Player gym leaders set their own team, requirements, and rewards. You can browse the active roster from spawn, teleport to a gym, and challenge the leader when they're online.
Identifying a gym leader
Gym leaders have coloured usernames in chat. You can also right-click the Gym Master at spawn to open the gym hub menu and browse every player-run gym.
Cooldowns
- 30 seconds between gym challenges
- 30 minutes global cooldown after any gym battle
- 6 hours cooldown per individual gym
You can't farm one gym over and over — the per-gym lockout exists to keep challenge runs meaningful.
Battle conditions
- Experience gain is disabled during gym battles
- Held item changes are blocked after the challenge starts
- No non-PvP battles count as a gym match
Gym availability
Gyms only accept challenges when the leader is online. When a leader logs in they're prompted to open their gym, and gyms close automatically on logout.
For Gym Leaders
Gym leaders manage their gym via /gl. The system lets you:
- Set your gym's Pokémon team
- Configure requirements challengers must meet (level cap, badges, etc.)
- Set per-result rewards — win, loss, or any-result payouts
- Open and close the gym manually
- Return given Pokémon via a GUI when you're done
Leaders are issued Pokémon to battle with, so you don't need to bring your own ranked-grade team.
