Nine of the eleven Ultra Beasts spawn only in UltraSpace. The other two — Nihilego and Buzzwole — can also appear during overworld roaming events.

Getting to UltraSpace

/warpsSpecialUltraSpace. You drop into a random location within 1,000 blocks of the dimension centre. See the UltraSpace page for biomes, layout, and survival tips.

Catching mechanics

Ultra Beasts use Cobblemon's stock catch math, but their base catch rates are punishing — Pheromosa and Naganadel in particular. Two things to bring:

  • Beast Balls — 5× multiplier on Ultra Beasts (and 0.1× on anything else). Always your best choice.
  • A reliable False Swiper — chipping the UB to 1 HP and applying Sleep is the standard hard-catch flow.

UltraSpace catch rates were tightened in the May 2026 update, so even a Beast Ball at red HP with Sleep won't always land. Pack a stack.

Catching an Ultra Beast does not break a Catch Combo — they're exempt.

Conditions that catch people out

  • Naganadel spawns only with direct line of sky above. Underground / cave-mouth Purple Forest won't roll it.
  • Stakataka spawns only above Y 60 — surface and elevated terrain in Stormcrack Fields.
  • Guzzlord spawns only below Y 40 — cave layers of Lava Canyon, not the surface.

The two roaming Ultra Beasts

Nihilego and Buzzwole also roll in the overworld through the roaming-event system — chat broadcasts their species and biome, the targeted player has 15 minutes to catch, otherwise the Pokémon despawns. See Legendaries for the full roaming flow.

Where to start

If you're going for your first UB, head to Purple Forest and look for Nihilego — it's the most common spawn (weight 10) in the most-trafficked biome. Save Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, and Guzzlord for when you have time to grind — they're ultra-rare and gated by extra conditions.
